I asked for a safe edge can opener for Christmas after I opened my hand on a coffee can opened with a traditional opener. I ended up buying this Hamilton Beach to replace my Christmas gift. This Hamilton Beach opener is fantastic! I use it for pop-tops, regular cans, anything! It's very easy to use, takes up a reasonable amount of counter space and looks good. The opener holds the can securely and creates a smooth edge on both the top and the can - it locks the can in the opener until you release it. The top is the same diameter as the can when all is done so you can't stuff the top in when you recycle. Customer Review: Why Did I Wait So Long

Like alot of you, I've gone through a number of electric can openers during my lifetime (ugh). I don't think your typical electric can openers are the quality they once were. The handle mechanisms are difficult to press down and rarely open the entire lid in one shot. Carpal tunnel problems virtually eliminate me using a manual can opener. I decided to spring the extra money for the Hamilton Beach 76606 Pop-Top Electric Can Opener in hopes that it would operate more efficiently. I felt confident in purchasing from Amazon because I knew if I didn't like it, I could return it with no hassle.
I am delighted with my new purchase and kicking myself for not buying it long ago. It is a life or should I say "wrist saver" and I would highly recommend it to everyone. As an extra bonus, the cutting mechanism also stays CLEAN. It's not your $9.99 electric can opener but you really get what you pay for.

My mother had been using a broken electric can opener for years, so I finally decided she had to have a new one. Now I want to get one for myself, even though I don't need one right now!
I bought this based on its stellar user reviews, and everyone is correct - this is the best can opener I've ever seen! Incredibly easy to use, never seems to get dirty (she's had it for over a month and she's opened LOTS of cans in that time), and it always cuts clean with NO jagged edges or metal fragments. It cuts the side of the can, just above the level of the can contents, so the blade doesn't touch the contents. The can and its top are left with no sharp edges, and the top can be put right back on the can, giving you the option of storing leftover contents right in the can itself. Mom prefers to store her leftovers in other containers, but it's nice that she has the option of just storing the whole can in the fridge if she's in a hurry.
This can opener does not have a knife sharpener like most ordinary can openers do, but it does have a scissors holder, which my mother finds much more useful. She never used the knife sharpener on her old can opener, but she was always searching for her misplaced kitchen scissors. Now she has an absolutely fabulous can opener, plus she can always find her scissors. She also likes its retractable power cord.
This can opener is a superior design at an ordinary price - just buy it!

I have had many electric can openers before. This one is the greatest. It opens with such ease and never sharp edges. They are gone forever. This was the best addition to my newly redone kitchen.
