What a great device for the summer! I've had this ice shaver for about 2 weeks now and I love it! Being a Korean-American, I love pat-bing-soo....a korean desert made of shaved-ice, ice cream, red beans, and milk. For this desert and all other deserts that require shaved ice, its very important to have fine, fine ice particles (essentially snow) rather than little ice chips. Ice chips will feel like you're chewing on pebbles....not good. The HB Snowman Ice Shaver does the trick at a very affordable price. The design is simple and quite effective in producing fine sheets of ice.
The only downside is that results are better if you use the ice-trays that comes with the Snowman rather than using regular ice cubes from your freezer. When you open up the machine you'll realize why I say this. What this all means is that you cannot make any more servings of shaved ice than what the two ice trays will make (about 4-6 servings). If you want to make more, then you're going to need more ice trays or find something in your kitchen that's about the same size as the ice trays so that it'll fit inside the Snowman. If I'm confusing you, then I can assure you that you'll know what I mean when you use this machine once or twice.
But when you take into consideration the high quality of shaved ice it produces and the inexpensive cost of this Snowman, I highly recommend this machine.
Description of Hamilton Beach 68010 Snowman Ice Shaver
Make frozen treats for adults or kids with an ice shaver that uses ice cubes or special moldsOn hot summer days nothing beats a scoop of snow--to eat! This delightful Snowman churns out bowlfuls of shaved ice in just seconds. Kids can slurp flavored sno-cones for a birthday party and adults can sip frozen daiquiris for evenings on the deck. Two 4-inch round plastic molds with lids are included for freezing water, syrup-flavored water, or fruit juices. Simply place the frozen round (regular ice cubes will work, too, but not as well) in the blade unit, cover with the motorized top, and press down on the palm-size operating button. A bowl placed underneath (not included) catches the instant snow. For safety the sharp blade is completely internal and not accessible to fingers when the Snowman is operating. The machine measures 13 inches high when assembled, with an 8-inch-square base. A one-year warranty covers the Snowman against defects. --Ann Bieri
