Customer Review: going strong after five and a half years

I bought this grill as the G.E. version at WalMart in early 2001. I was looking for a Foreman grill, they were sold out (it was shortly after Christmas), but I saw the G.E. grill on the shelves. I'd never even seen a grill with removable grids before, and I'd heard Foreman grill owners complain about difficulty in cleaning. I bought the smaller model for roughly $35, thinking it wasn't a big chunk of change if it didn't work. It was part of a line of G.E. branded small appliances sold only through WalMart. G.E. discontinued the line and today the same grill is made by Hamilton Beach in two sizes.
It doesn't receive heavy, daily use, but it's used once a week on average. The pop-out grids go right into the dishwasher or sink filled with hot, soapy water, and they clean up beautifully. The nonstick coating is still intact, but only wooden or plastic tools have been used to cook/clean. To enhance grease drainage, I often place a 1/2" trivet on the left end of the grill, to increase the slope of the grease to the run-off pan, which is integrated into the grill and which removes for easy cleaning.
Medium width food such as boneless chicken breasts or hamburger patties do receive sear marks and are moist inside. It's virtually impossible to ruin food in this grill!
Have never used it fully open--if that much cooking space is needed, better to use the patio grill--but for someone in an apartment or without an outdoor grill, the larger model opened up gives you about 200 inches of cooking space (food must be turned in this case). I do food prep (wash/slice vegetables, apply seasoning to meat) during the five-minute warm-up period, at which point the grill is ready for use. Overall, an amazing value for the money, and much easier to use than a grill without removable grids. When this grill gives out, I'd replace it with the current Hamilton Beach model.
