Customer Review: Just let it run until the filter is DRY and it will last

If you leave the humidifer running after the tank has emptied until the filter is dry dry DRY (i.e., the humidity has dropped down), the filter will last and last. If you don't let it dry, but keep filling the tank with water, the filter gets really skanky really quickly. I learned the hard way until I read one of the reviews on this site. Have run it for over a month now with no smell. Filter is great.
I LOVE this humidifier because I can pop the parts in the dishwasher. I can get it CLEAN easily. Never found another humidifier that you can do this with.
Who cares if the humidistat works exactly? It tells me if the humidity is high or low, and that's all that matters.
It is indeed a BEAR to close the tank tightly, but we run it fine just closing it as tight as we can. Have never had a leakage problem.
Have tried many other kinds, and this does the job the best. Too bad it has been discontinued... I wanted to get one for my 87-year-old parents, since it is the easiest and best I have ever used.
Customer Review: replacement filter does not perform like original

The original filter that came with the unit worked fine and it was easily able to humidify two large rooms. This replacement filter, however, does not seem to wick water very well. It can barely keep a 17x12' room at 30% humidity with the door closed, windows shut and heat turned off. And it's in the 40s -- not even very cold out. In fact, it wicks so badly that for the water level to change in the tank I have to flip the filter every hour or so. I called Hamilton Beach but they said it wasn't their problem because the filters are manufactured by 3M. Of course, this is the only filter offered for use with this unit.Customer Review: Mold? I'm puzzled by the several reviews that say the filter gets moldy too fast. I am replacing my first filter after about a year because it has built up deposits of lime. I never noticed any mold.Customer Review: Short filter life

I had read a lot of reviews for the humidifier before purchasing. I like to humidifier but the filter is expensive and has a short life. I end up using at least one a month. It gets moldy easily even though I change the water every day and follow the cleaning instructions.Customer Review: Life too short
